Dedicated to the people of Uganda who were a source of Inspiration to take the problem of Lean Burn and make it a Global Reality.

CEI was founded in 1977 to develop a lean burn system which addresses two timely and critical concerns: fuel efficiency & global warming. In the year 2000, CEI succeeded in developing the first high efficiency lean burn system in the form of a low-cost 2-valve engine, enhanced by the CEI ignition. It has the 30% higher fuel efficiency of the diesel, and a lean burn capability of over 30 to 1. It is backed by master patents in ignition and engine design covering 1996 and 2007, with four critical patents issued in 2007. Predictions by car makers that future high efficiency engines will cost $5,000 more, is simply wrong. The high efficiency 2-valve engine can actually lead to a decrease of costs. CEI’s purpose is to show the gain that can be made from its many patents, and the profound impact that they can have on cost, efficiency and power.

FACTS CONFIRMED IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS OF CEI WORK

  • The CEI Ignition is central to the solution of lean burn for igniting difficult-to-ignite mixtures, delivering 5 times the energy for igniting lean mixtures for fuel economy, and 10 times the energy for cold-start of difficult fuels, e.g. ethanol and natural gas.
  • Fuel economy gains of 30% are achieved in this low-cost, squish-flow, 2-valve engine using CEI’s patented 2-plug ignition with halo-disc plugs for a record in lean burn Ignition of 30 to 1 air-fuel ratio to make lean burn a reality for gasoline engines.
  • A low-cost,Variable Compression Ratio engine can give a 45% gain in fuel efficiency when combined with lean burn. With patented pistons containing steel or titanium disc springs with high pre-loading, they can give the highest power by the action of the disc springs.

The low-cost, 2-valve, 2-plug, squish-flow, fast burn, lean burn engine, developed and patented by CEI between 1996 and 2007, is the simplest and lowest-cost engine, unequalled in efficiency and performance, and able to lower greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) and Global Warming. Recently, CEI did an analysis of the 2-plug Hemi design and found it to be advantageous.

COMPARISON TO DIESEL ENGINES
  • Gasoline spark ignition engines are more powerful than diesel engines because they can utilize all the air they breathe to make greater power.
  • Gasoline engines can have the efficiency of diesels when operated ultra-lean, and have lower emissions, especially at high loads by operating at stoichiometric with a 3-way catalyst.
  • Diesels are much more expensive, complex, heavy and underpowered than gasoline engines and have high exhaust emissions by not being able to use a 3-way catalyst.
